It is that time of year again, time to humble brag about our awesome collaboration with Forge Baking Co to bring you the "In Season Dinner" series.  This year we are kicking off with the famed Pizza and Beer night.  Idle Hands Brewing will provide the suds and Forge will provide the alchemy that turns flour and water into the most perfectly doughy, chewy crust imaginable. And it will all be topped with locally sourced goodies from your friends (us!) at Family Dinner.

It all takes place on January 30th, 6:30 pm at Forge Baking Co in Somerville.  Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite - we would love to see you there!

SHROOMS IN THE ROOM!

This week we have some delicious mushrooms from Julia and crew at Mycoterra and I couldn't be more excited.  Now, I know that some of you are squarely in the "No Shrooms Please" camp --- you are welcome to skip this part of the email and rejoin us at the "What's in the Bag" section.  Or maybe instead you want to watch this classic video of a Baby Panda sneezing and scaring the life of our her mom. Sound on, it's gold.

Mycoterra cultivates a wide variety of mushrooms year-round in Western, MA.  They grow a gorgeous selection and this week have sent us Shiitakes. A bit about them from her site:

" As an edible mushroom, Shiitake boast a rich fragrance that sets it apart from the common mushroom, a firm meaty texture that is not lost in the cooking process, and a robust deep earthy flavor that is distinct yet adaptable taking on the notes of most any dish. Known for their deep Umami taste in eastern cuisine, shiitake are a culinary asset for enhancing the depth of flavor for almost any dish: meat, veggies, poultry, seafood, eggs, even in baked goods (shiitake sourdough is delectable).  They are great sauteed, stuffed, roasted, grilled, and even pickled! All that said, if you are new to cooking mushrooms and don't know what to do - throw them in what you already love! Tacos, pizza, sautees! Go for it. They love butter and low heat and they are forgiving.

RECIPES

Skate Wing with Mushrooms and Hazelnuts: I don't keep hazelnuts in the house, I find they go bitter too quickly, I'm going to crush pistachios or walnuts here.

Roasted Chicken with potatoes, mushrooms and tomatoes:  It's half the cast of your share in one pan.

Sauteed Spinach and Mushrooms: Add protein and some rice or potatoes and voila! Thanks, Martha!
